Harry’s Heroes

This is a rescue mission

As the video stated, in the UK 375,000 people a year are diagnosed with cancer and this number is growing.

The diagnosis is traumatic for the individual and their family and friends. Their lives are put on hold as they wait to learn what will happen following the diagnosis. Some will be blessed with a positive outcome, while others will lose their battle.

That’s why we need you to become one of Harry’s Heroes.

Harry's Heroes

You will have the opportunity to attend an SAS style hostage rescue simulation with Stoic Events, and in return you will raise as much sponsorship as possible for the Cancer Support Charity Help Harry Help Others.

Although you don’t have to be an athlete or super-fit you will be tested physically and mentally in a specially designed facility in Scotland over the weekend of the 18th and 19th November 2022.

The build up and main event will be filmed for a feature length film that will be premiered at an exclusive event in December, where there will also be prizes for those who take part.

What you can expect

“The event will immerse you into the world of a special forces operator. The event focuses on team work, courage and wit. This is not an overly physical event, you will learn new skills and more importantly learn a lot about yourself. All activities at any Stoic Event are kept secret, however, you can expect to do some or all of the following:

  • Abseiling
  • Speed boat extraction
  • Shooting real weapons
  • Using military grade explosives
  • Learning secret skills
  • Code breaking
  • Kayaking
  • Confidence tests
  • Introduction to tactical questioning

    Harry’s Heroes FAQ’s

    Q. Can I participate on a different weekend?

No, as a team event you will need to be available to participate on the Friday the 18th & Saturday the 19th November 2022.  Accommodation will be provided from Friday Night till Monday morning. You can travel home on the Sunday after the final day if you wish.

Q When does it all start?

As soon as we have a signed agreement you can share details of your participation with your contacts, we will also supply you with logos, hashtags and other information to help spread the word.

    Q. How do I raise the money?

We are using DonorBox and peer to peer fundraising, this allows us to track the total as well as individual progress

    Q. How will I get to and from the venue?

The venue is accessible from both Glasgow and Edinburgh so we can arrange to collect you from either airport or either main train station. If we have a large number of participants from one city we will look to put on transport.

    Q. How physically fit do I need to be?

You need to be in good physical health, don’t worry you don’t have to be an athlete, however there is exercise and stressful situations involved. A medical declaration will be sent with relevant joining instructions prior to the event.

Q Which Team will I be in?

If you’ve signed up as a team of 6 then you will be in your own team, smaller teams and individuals will be combined to make a team of 6. We will be assigning people to a team as early as possible and put them in touch to aid preparation.

    Q. How much does it cost?

We are asking each participant to raise as much money as possible with a target of £1,500 each, this allows us to cover the costs incurred putting the event on and contribute money to the charity. For reasons of confidentiality we cannot disclose the exact running costs with anyone other than the Charity Board.

    Q. What happens if I fall short of the £1,500?

We’ll check in with you regularly to see how you are progressing, however if it appears that you will fall significantly short of the target we’ll work with you to get back on track, however we do reserve the right to withdraw you from the event in order to protect the charity from “funding” your place if you fall too far away from your target.

    Q. You say it’s being filmed, do I have to appear?

The short answer is yes, however we are sensitive to people’s wishes and so can look to minimise your screen time if needed. Also note there will be filming before and after the event, including your personal training videos and interviews.

    Q. Will I be made to look silly on camera?

We will not set out to humiliate or damage anyone’s reputation during filming, we will also ensure no personal or sensitive information will be shared without consent.

    Q. Where and when is the Film Premiere event?

We are still working with several venues to find the most appropriate time and location, as soon as we have it confirmed you will be notified.

    Q. Can I withdraw if I have to?

We understand that people sometimes have emergencies and other things to deal with, however if you pull out at short notice your space will still cost the charity so we ask that you give at least 4 weeks notice. In some cases we may have a participant on standby and as long as your sponsors agree we can transfer the money raised to them.

    Q. What’s the minimum age?

You must be over 18 years of age to attend due to the activities involved. You can, however, raise funds for HHHO in your own way and allocate them towards this event

    Q. What kit and equipment will I need?

A mandatory kit list will be sent in your joining instructions. The kit is mandatory to ensure your safety against the elements and whilst traversing uneven ground etc.
